Let The Games Begin!

The 2014 Alabama State Games were a huge success! The Opening Ceremonies were held Friday night, June 20, at the BJCC. Several thousand filled the BJCC Arena to watch the Parade of Athletes and the Lighting of the flame. Thousands of athletes from across the state of Alabama paraded into the arena by regions. Marine Lance Corporal Jason Perkins sang the National Anthem and several other numbers. Olympic Gold Medalist Jennifer Chandler served as the Grand Marshall. The athtetes recited the Oath to the Athletes and Paralympic Medalist Maze Marshall, senior athlete Jim Robinson and Berritt Haynes, Alabama State Games Male Athlete of the Year for 2013, carried the torch and lit the flame to begin the 32nd Annual Alabama State Games. Noah Rovi from Gardendale won the $2500 College Scholarship that was given away during the Opening Ceremonies.

The games ran all weekend, June 20-22, at 24 venues across the Jefferson and Shelby county area. Sports included archery, baseball, basketball, bmx racing, bowling, disc golf, diving, gymnastics, olympic-style rugby, shooting sports, soccer, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, track and field, triathlon and wrestling. Results are posted on the web site on each sports page.
